In the
summer of 2001, a few Calgary International Airport ground crew workers
got together for rides, piloting their sport bikes like fighter jets (without
breaking the speed limit of course). At the time it was just a few
friends doing something that they all shared the same passion in.
But founding member Kelly Dobler
wanted to take it one step further than just a few friends getting together
and going for rides. That is where the Calgary Ground Pilots comes
in.
He started this web site where anyone with any make or model of motorcycle
could ask a question, meet new riding friends and much more. All
of this available with the click of a mouse. Originally it was just
Kelly's 'riding buddies' that would log onto the site. But as word
got around, more and more people started to look at the site. With the site becoming more and more popular among the motorcyle community, Kelly decided that limiting it to Calgary was good at the start, but why not go big. Now with members all over the planet, (most residing in Calgary) the site has dropped the Calgary name for the most part. What hasn't changed is the friendly people that make the site possible.
Now in it's 8th year, the Ground Pilots forum membership continues
to grow. More and more people log in regularly, and new members
joining all the time.
